ID_Frankfurt e.V. (Independent Dance and Performance e.V.) is a non-profit association of freelance artists, theoreticians and educators in the fields of choreography and performance. The association was founded in 2009 to improve the working situation and self-organisation of freelance dancers, choreographers, performance artists and theatre professionals. It has been supported by the City of Frankfurt since its inception and has been able to establish itself as an integral part of the Frankfurt cultural scene, not least thanks to the multi-year funding it has received since 2017. The activities of ID_Frankfurt are developed and supported by its members in a collaborative and solidary way. A rotating honorary board of directors accompanies and supports these processes and ensures continuous cultural policy work.
In recent years, ID_Frankfurt has developed numerous formats and institutions that have become an integral part of today’s independent scene and has fought for their realisation with great commitment. Much began with a mobile dance floor that allowed for performances independent of institutions and made possible the first festivals Tanzpanorama (2009-2010) and Rough Cuts (2011-2012) in the Studierendenhaus and within the Platform Sarai. In 2012, the Z – Zentrum für Proben und Forschen (Centre for Rehearsals and Research) became the first independent rehearsal centre for performance and dance in Frankfurt. IMPLANTIEREN followed in 2013, a format for site-specific performances that explicitly responds to the shortage of space for contemporary dance and performance: initially in the Naxoshalle and, since 2016, biennially at different locations throughout the city. In addition, ID_Frankfurt frequently organises residencies, network formats, workshops and lecture series that promote and facilitate a mutual exchange within the scene.
